Adoption of the "Declaration on Solidarity Levies to boost revenues for sustainable development" - July 14, Addis Ababa
On 14 July 2015, in Addis Ababa, Chile, Korea, France, the International Organization of la Francophonie and Stamp Out Poverty adopted a Declaration on internationale solidarity levies and taxes deriving from globalization gains for poverty eradication and sustainable development, including climate.
Born from the mobilization of France, Chile and civil society organizations such as Stamp Out Poverty, this Declaration highlights the progress achieved through innovative financing since their establishment while recognizing the diversity of forms of existing initiatives. It stresses in particular the example of the solidarity levy on airline tickets (which the benefits UNITAID namely) and the financial transactions tax. Finally, it encourages other States to introduce these solidarity levies on a voluntary basis to support the achievement of the sustainable development goals.
The Declaration, so far signed by the three countries, one international organization and one organization of civil society, is open to other signatures.
Chile and France, respectively Chair and Secretariat of the Leading group, encourage all members of the Leading group and other partners to join this initiative which will be presented again at the Post-2015 Agenda Summit in New York (26-27 September).
